Junior Neighbourhood Support Awards at Tawhai School

25/04/2011

Junior Neighbourhood Support is a programme that aims to promote a sense of pride, safety and community spirit in children and the wider school community, The programme awards and recognises primary and Intermediate students who have assisted others or have done something that demonstrates community spirit and pride, or supports community safety. The Programme which has sponsers such as Rotary and Service club, works in partnership with Police, the Fire Service, Civil Defence and Emergency management. At the  Tawhai school assembly on Friday 15th April, two students were  awarded  for their contribution to the community.

Present at the Assembly were Ross McKinnon, the Coordinator of the programme, Kelsey Scarr- the administrator, Senior Sergeant Darren Russell , and community constable Keith Wright.

The 2 students who received the awards were Ava S and Brad C. Ava showed support for fellow students with a great deal of tenderness, understanding and a very mature behaviour for one so young. When his mother had  a major seizure at home earlier this year, Brad showed the presence of mind to take his little sister to another room then check his mother’s safety before  calling for an adult neighbour to assist. Both were awarded certificates, baskets of goodies and vouchers, sponsored by Stokes Valley New World, Events Cinemas and Westfield Queensgate.

Tawhai School Promotes Walking School Bus.

13/04/2011

On the 29th March, Tawhai School had their first walking school bus. 45 students met at the corner of Wagon Road and Stokes Valley Road and walked to school. Upon arrival, our students were greeted with a decorative school banner and a rap performance from their fellow students. They were awarded small prizes for their effort. Because it was such a successful event, Tawhai School will endeavour to get permanent walking school buses organised.

Disco fever hits Tawhai!

11/04/2011

Both the junior and senior students  had an opportunity to rave it up on the dance floor at the Tawhai School Disco last Friday 8th April. About over 170 students  attended dressed  in their best disco outfits, not only to  sample the delights of chippies, chocolates and boxed drinks, but to cover  themselves in glow bracelets and enjoy the music of our favourite DJ, Daryl Gatward. A big thank-you to you, Daryl from us all. A big thank-you as well to the teachers and parents who worked very hard to make this a successful evening.
