Miniball

On Tuesday 28th June, 25 Tawhai Students proudly represented their school in the 2011 Interzone Cross Country held for the first time at Lower Hutt, instead of the usual venue of Wainuiomata. The conditions were muddy, but luckily the rain held off as the chidren completed their run. Congratulations to all those who took part and a big thank you to the parents, grandparents and extended family who came to support the children.

On Friday 24th June, a good number of children who decided to walk to School, were rewarded with a lovely warm, milky milo with a couple of marshmallows on top, kindly provided by Sherie Wright, School Travel Planner with the Greater Wellington Regional Council. Priyanka Bhonsule from the Hutt News was on hand to photograph some of the children and Jenni Adams(The Liaison Officer for the walking school bus promotion) drinking their milos.

On Friday 24th June, the students enjoyed an hour of craft with the teachers at Tawhai School, the difference being that although the teachers remained in their rooms to model the activity, junior, middle and senior students were divided so that there were several of each syndicate in the classrooms. The students and teachers alike seem to have a lot of fun!

As part of his homework last week, Wynn Hanning decided that his kitten Donny would make an interesting topic, so with the help of Mum, Julie, Donny was
shown around the class and Wynn answered various questions about him.

Yesterday 60 Tawhai sudents, along with Koraunui, Tui Glen, Taita Central, Pomare and St Michaels took part in the Northern Zone Cross Country along the riverbank across from Fraser Park. The weather was perfect for running, although the track was quite muddy and wet.

I was totally impressed with the effort and perseverance that all of our students put into their races. The training that we had done over the last few weeks had certainly paid off and this showed in the placings that many of our students ended up with .

I would like to make a special mention of 3 year 3 students that participated. Brierley-Rose M, Claudia H and James N, who all ran exceptionally well as honorary year 4′s.

Next Tuesday is the Interzone Cross Country and we will have at least 1/3 of the Northern Zone team participating.

A big thank you to all the parents and family members who attended the event to support and encourage their children. It was a fantastic turnout.

Room 9 had a surprise visit  by Mrs Poole and Room 4 yesterday, Wednesday 15th June. They came armed with letters written by them for each of the children in Room 9. They have been learning to how to write letters for their topic this term,  so it was a lovely idea to put their  learning into practical use and at the same time, make some 5 year olds very happy!
