Get Wise Facilitator from ASB visits Tawhai School.

28/11/2011

During last week, Tawhai School had several visits from Vanepale Sopoaga, a Get Wise Facilitator from ASB. Get Wise is a school orientated programme with key finnancial literacy concepts woven through it, using interactive games and activities, inspiring stories and energetic participation.
The topics that are covered are:
• Learning where money comes from, why we have it and its value
• An introduction to the golden rules of saving, and why saving is so important
• Developing skills to cope with everyday financial situations that are relevant right now,
like counting money at the tuck shop or choices around earning, saving and spending pocket money
• Identifying the difference between ‘wants’ and ‘needs’

There were sessions designed specifically for 3 different year primary levels- 1-2 years, 3-4 years and 5-6 years.

Vanepale visited Room 9 in the guise of Captain Cashtastic to the delight of the children in there.

Third Week of Twilight Soccer.

15/11/2011

Dyer Street hosted their third week of twilight soccer on Monday. Since the Tawhai Small Whites have now moved to a different grade, all 4 teams are playing at the same time until the season is over this year.
The All Whites had a much closer game this week, playing the Muritai Tornadoes. At half time, they were only 1-0 down, with not only Keaton displaying some great goal keeping skills, but Hamish, Zac and Lydia managed some shots on goal, and Hannah and Heilee were strong in defence. The second half proved to be a little more difficult as Muritai stepped up their attack and with some excellent ball skills, scored 3 more goals. But in all, a much more spirited performance from the Small Whites.

Mr Skilton spoke a few words to the students next. He was very impressed with the general good behaviour shown by most of the Tawhai Students and how they managed to occupy their time well at break times with various activities, ball games, etc.

Several students from Room 14 have been practicing a couple of plays. They have been learning to project their voices so that the audience can hear them, making sure that they speak clearly and not too quickly.
