Final Assembly for 2011

Tawhai School came together on Friday 16th December for their last assembly of the year.

Co-hosted by Paige & Travis, 2 year 6 students.

On a sad note, the school has to say goodbye to Mrs Von Keisenberg, Mrs Neemia and Chrissie McKail. Mrs VK will be going to work in Malaysia, and Mrs Neemia will be teaching year 7 children at Maidstone Intermediate. Chrissie was presented with some lovely flowers. Everyone sang Individuality, Mrs VK’s favourite song, and Bad Hair Day, a song that Mrs Neemia particularly liked, even though as she said, it’s something she has never experienced!

Miss Page & Miss Bhana took the opportunity to thank the choir for their hard work during the year.

Unfortunately, Amelia M from Room 2 was away when the End of Year Final Assembly took place last week, so Mrs Poole gave her the certificate during this last assembly.

Renee was given the Neighbourhood Community of award for her valuable help when her mother was about to have a baby, namely calling for the ambulance, getting towels and being very calm the whole time.

Some of the seniors had an opportunity to show their lovely artwork from camp.

Room 15 made some lovely Christmas cards to give to all the teachers and support staff in the school.

Lastly Mr Skilton gave a farewell speech to our wonderful year 6 children who were then allowed to leave the Hall first.

Middle Syndicate Give Concert for Stokeswood Residents.

Several of our Stokeswood Residents paid Tawhai School a visit today to view a programme of acts performed by our very talented middle syndicate, whilst enjoying a cup of tea and Christmas cake. Hosted by Josh and Lucy, the residents were treated to a varied range of dancing, from ballet to tap, with some hip hop thrown in the mix.The children then sang some Christmas songs and for a finale the teachers and some of the students had a dance.

End of Year Assembly- Taita College 9th December.

Tawhai School once again held their end of Year Assembly and prize giving at Taita College. After a warm welcome from our Principle, Matt Skilton, who outlined the events of the evening, the audience heard speeches from the Board of Trustees Chairperson, Paul Barker, & Wendy Bartlett, the P.T.S.G chairperson. The Artsplash choir sang 3 delightful songs from their repotoire. Our very hardworking sports co-ordinator, Sharon Gilmour was presented with a gift from Sarah T and Nikita F.
Raewyn Young acknowledged all the parent tutor readers who have helped the students so much over the year.
Road Patrol certificates were then handed to the students who have faithfully braved all the elements to make sure that everyone crossed the road safely,both at the beginning and at the end of the school day.
After the graduation certificates were presented to the year 6 students, Jenni Adams, Raewyn Young and Janette Page read out a poem, written by them dedicated to all those year 6′s.
The came the business end of the Assembly when the Ghandi awards,certificates and trophies were presented.
Our leaving teachers,Amanda Neemia and Prue Von Keisenberg were farewelled & everyone sang The first Noel and Jingle Bell Rock.
Lastly the audience were treated to the staff rendition of ‘Rock around the Christmas Tree’.

Last Games of Touch for the Term.

Today saw the last round of touch games at Fraser Park for our 4 Tawhai Teams. All the teams did very well, there were 3 wins and a very hard fought draw for the Black Ferns. There was a prize giving for each league, but this time, the organizers have decided that there wouldn’t be any playoffs for placings. Instead each coach named the most improved player and the most valuable player for their team.

Parent Helpers Morning Tea at Tawhai.

On Thursday 8th December, Tawhai School hosted a morning tea for all those wonderful Parents, Grandparents and extended family who do so much to help out. Whether it be parent tutor reading, motoring the students to various events that the school takes part in, supervising the road patrol, or going to camp with the seniors, it is all so much appreciated by all at Tawhai. Sarah T, a year 6 student adressed the parents with a well thought out speech, then the audience were treated to some lovely singing by the choir then the whole school sang Jingle Bell Rock and Feliz Navidad. Mr Skilton then said a few words before inviting everyone to a delicious morning tea in the staff room.

Tawhai Artsplash Choir Visits R.S.A.

On Friday 2nd December The Tawhai Artsplash Choir performed at the R.S.A. Widow’s Christmas Party. They sang an number of songs from the Artsplash repertoire as well as some well-known Christmas carols, which included a dance choreographed by Piper-Rose Morrison and Jasmine Clout. The choir was very well received and the R.S.A. thanked the children with an afternoon tea and a monetary donation to the school for music resources.
