Yesterday, thankfully as there was a break in the weather, Rooms, 1, 2, 4 & 5, (4 & 5 in the morning and 1 & 2 in the afternoon) went along to Horoeka Reserve to take part in four awesome activities organised by the Hutt City Council, Enviroschools, and Friends of Horoeka Reserve and Greater Wellington. The aim was to connect with the natural life at Horoeka Reserve, to inspire more visits and actions to care for Papatūānuku and to have fun!The four activities consisted of: • Exploring freshwater life of the stream with Travis Moody (Hutt River Ranger) and Claire Reddish (Enviroschools)• Exploring the impact of predators and ideas for action with Riba Greally (Hutt City Council)• Meeting a gecko and learning about lizards with Dennis Keall• Making a seed ball or planter with Pam Cromarty (Friends of Horoeka Reserve)The children had a great time rotating around the activities. They were especially taken with the 2 Gekkos that Dennis had brought with him to meet the children! A BIG thank you to teachers, Mrs Tucker & Miss Duffy, and parent, Lesley MacKay, who assisted in the morning with Room’s 4 & 5. The children did the extra activity going around the loop track, whilst answering some thought-provoking questions in a quiz they were given at several points along the track!A HUGE thank you to the parents who came to help during the afternoon.
