Tawhai School

A Farewell Assembly for Sharon Gilmour

December 13 2019

It has been a week of saying Goodbye and au revoirs and today it was the turn of our beloved Sharon Gilmour to be formally farwelled as she retires after 23 years in Tawhai school
This afternoon in a special assembly, co presented by Jessica and Zeph, she sat with her family as the Nga Kukari & Nga Manu Syndicates came up on stage to pay their tributes and give her beautifully made cards. We sang 2 of her favourite songs, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Bad Hair Day!
Principal for the Day, Samara gave Sharon some lovely flowers. Casey presented her with the best Sports coordinator trophy.
Mrs Poole in her speech, acknowledged the many years of service that Sharon had devoted to Tawhai School in the multiple roles that she filled, that of Teacher Aide, office assistant and sports coordinator.
As a result of some very generous contributions by staff and families alike, Sharon was presented with a fantastic barbeque set.
Sharon in her speech in turn gifted the school with a mobile Basketball set!
The Nga Tama Toa Boys gave a very moving and heartfelt Haka performance with the rest of the school behind them so that if other students wanted to join in, they could!
After the assembly there was an afternoon tea for Sharon in the staffroom with staff and some very special guests.
Tawhai School will miss you very much Mrs Gilmour, but we are glad that you are going to be able to spend lots more time with your family and Grandchildren!
