Tawhai School

Tawhai School Benefiting from a Share in a $10,000 Legacy

May 8 2017

Parents coming into the school last Friday would have seen Ross McKinnon hard at work planting natives around the sandpit area, and the back of the staffroom with the Enviro Group. This is all thanks to a legacy left by a gentleman called Colin Lasson (who made his living looking after lawns and gardens) to Stokes Valley residents, the late Geof Owers, a foundation member of the Stokes Valley Rotary club. Geof and his wife Joan then decided to give the money to the 3 Stokes Valley Schools, Tawhai, Koraunui and Tui Glen so that a quiet garden area could be developed for the children to rest in, read, relax and enjoy.
Ross who is the Project Organiser and Honorary Rotarian, says that while “each school can plant and develop their particular area as they wish, it must have native plants and include a small name plate in memory of Colin Lasson”
Here are some photos of Ross and the Envirogroup hard at work with the planting!
