We have loved celebrating Te Wiki o te Reo Maori.
On Monday morning at 12:00 Room 7 joined the rest of New Zealand by stopping and singing together to mark the start of the week. Elizabeth lead us with the actions.
We did some wonderful paper weaving and talked about things that are woven with harakeke – flax. We have shared the stories of Maui and used poi toa outside for P.E.
We are learning a new and tricky game called “I Te Timatanga” and used the Maori alphabet for a game we call “Catch the Animal”. We solved the sentence before Mrs Dorgan could draw all the parts of a weta.
As Matua Whaitiri said at Kapa Haka today, “People would be surprised how many words they actually do know in Te Reo”.
And that is a wonderful thing for us to be building on!
