Last week of Touch & Prize Giving.

30/03/2012

Thursday 29th March saw all 4 touch teams play their last game of touch for the season. Each team had to play a double header as a catch up. The Tawhai AB’s lost both their games, the second one a very hard fought battle1-2 against Belmont Broncos. The Turtles, Taniwhas and the Black Ferns all won their games, the Black Ferns running in an impressive 11 tries against The Belmont Tigers.
There was a prize giving after the games and it was very pleasing to see how well supported by family & friends the 4 Tawhai Teams were! It was noted that when the children weren’t playing their games, they were on the side lines cheering for the other Tawhai teams.A big thank you to the people who have given up their time to  coach the teams:
Kim Kiri, Junior Bates, Janette Page, Sharon Gilmour, and Hayden Wyllie.

Flag League at Tournament.

21/03/2012

This took place at Taita college on Thursday 15th March. 30 students from the senior school who had been receiving coaching in the basics of rugby league, played in a fun tournament against other schools in the Northern Zone cluster. This event was run very successfully by the year 12 P.E students from Taita College and supported by Wellington Rugby League.
It was fantastic to see so many students taking part, displaying amazing talent with their ball skills and speed with their running. Tawhai had two teams at the event and players of the day were Cooper P and Kerenza M. An outstanding effort!
I would like to make mention of the excellent behaviour and attitude shown by our students throughout the day. Well done to all who took part.

Janette Page.

Northern Zone Swimming Sports at Stokes Valley Pool.

19/03/2012

On Friday 16th march, students from Tawhai, Koraunui, Pomare and Taita Central Schools assembled at Stokes Valley Pool for the Northern Zone Sports. Tawhai was represented by 30 students from years 4-6. Competition was fierce with a number of races too close to call. After a morning’s swim, Koraunui took out first place, with Tawhai in 2nd place, Pomare 3rd and Taita Central 4th.
A fantastic effort by everyone that took part; There is certainly a wealth of talent in our schools.
An extra congratulations to the following students who are now going to the Interzone Swimming Event on 28th March at Naenae Pool. Cooper P, Neve T, Alysha B, Hamish T, Bre L, Nikita O, Mary M and Lydia S.

Today saw the last round of touch games at Fraser Park for our 4 Tawhai Teams. All the teams did very well, there were 3 wins and a very hard fought draw for the Black Ferns. There was a prize giving for each league, but this time, the organizers have decided that there wouldn’t be any playoffs for placings. Instead each coach named the most improved player and the most valuable player for their team.
