Tawhai School P.E. Update – Term 1 & 2
By Ryan McGarry
It’s been a fantastic start to 2025 in the P.E. space here at Tawhai School!
Term 1 Highlights
We kicked off the year with Water Safety sessions at Stokes Valley Pool for our junior and Year 4 classes. These sessions helped build water confidence and taught important safety skills. A huge thank you to all the amazing parents who supported us on the day – your help made a big difference!
We also began utilising our school bikes, giving students the chance to develop bike skills and confidence in a safe and fun way. It’s been great to see so many tamariki challenging themselves and enjoying the ride.

Well done to those who qualified for Northern Zone and Interzone, and a special shoutout to Mila, Darcie, Madison, Lucy, and Zoey who represented Tawhai School at the Regionals. Ka mau te wehi!
Throughout both terms, our Student Leaders have done a fantastic job running lunchtime activities such as pickleball, crazy catch challenges, and supervising sessions with the school bikes. Their leadership has helped create fun, inclusive opportunities for others to get active.
We also ran junior basketball sessions every Thursday with Aimee Ah Wong, which have been hugely popular. These sessions have supported our younger students to develop their coordination, teamwork, and ball-handling skills in a fun and engaging way.
It’s been an action-packed couple of terms – I’m proud of the effort and enthusiasm our students continue to show in all areas of P.E. Bring on Term 3!
