Kia ora whānau,
As we wrap up a busy Term 2 and head into the colder months, we want to share a massive celebration of the incredible environmental mahi happening across our school. It has been an action-packed term, guided beautifully by our fantastic student Enviro Leaders, Onora and Lucy.
From waste reduction to looking after our local wildlife, our tamariki have been true kaitiaki (guardians) of our school environment. Here is a look at what we’ve achieved together this term:
Lunchtime Rubbish Club
A huge shout-out to our dedicated playground cleaners! Every Wednesday at lunchtime, members of the School Rubbish Club have been giving up part of their play time to help clear rubbish from around the playground. Thanks to their consistent efforts, our school grounds are looking beautiful, tidy, and safe for everyone.
Feeding Our Manu
With the arrival of winter, our local birds need a helping hand. The Enviro team has been regularly checking and topping up our school bird feeders. This simple act of care ensures our local manu have access to extra nutrients over the coldest months of the year, bringing plenty of birdsong to our treetops!
World Environment Day: A Cosmic Success!
World Environment Day was a massive highlight this term, and the school was absolutely buzzing with green energy!
- The Wrapper-Free Challenge: We had a phenomenal response to our ‘wrapper-free lunch box challenge’. Thank you so much to all the families who supported this. It was amazing to see how much we can reduce our daily plastic waste!
- Space-Themed Recycled Art Competition: Our creative tamariki blew us away with their out-of-this-world entries! Using nothing but recycled materials, students built incredible rockets, aliens, and galaxies. The level of innovation and resourcefulness on display was truly stellar.
School Composting and Recycling
A massive thank you to our senior students who have been showing wonderful leadership by running our school composting and recycling collection every week. You are fantastic role models for our younger learners!
Looking Ahead to Term 3
Thank you, whānau, for your ongoing support of our Enviroschools initiatives. Whether it’s packing a litter-free lunch or helping your child brainstorm a recycled art project, your involvement makes a huge difference.
Stay warm over the holidays, and we look forward to more green adventures in Term 3!
Ngā mihi nui,
The Enviroschools Team
