Mihi Whakatau Term 4

24th October 2023

Kia ora e te whānau,

We were very fortunate that the weather was very much in our favour this morning, so this term’s Mihi Whakatau to welcome our newest ākonga and their whānau to Tawhai Kura took place under the Whakaruruhau

Tu Rangatira Aysha and Lucy welcomed the new whānau as they walked to the stage and were shown to their seats.

Mr McGarry gave a whaikōrero on behalf of the tengata whenua and Matua Jake spoke on behalf of the manuhuri.

The Kura sang Haere Mai and the Tawhai kura waiata so beautifully for the manuhuri, accompanied by Miss Page on the guitar.

The Manuhuri in reply sang Te Aroha

Then instead of a hongi and a handshake, it was the ‘bumping of elbows’!

Tumuaki Mrs Poole gave a very warm welcome to our new Tawhai Kura ākonga.

Afterwards the manuhuri gathered together in the staffroom and after the karakia from Tu Rangatira, Heidi and Charlotte, enjoyed some kai and fellowship.
