NZEI Primary Teachers’ Paid Union Meeting

28th May 2023

Kia ora e te whānau

My apologies for the short notice but we have just recently been informed by the NZEI Primary Teachers’ Union of Paid Union Meetings (PUM) happening for all primary schools across the Hutt Valley on Wednesday 31 May.  As a condition of their employment contract with the Government, primary teachers have an entitlement to attend paid union meetings.  The purpose of the upcoming meeting will be an opportunity for kaiako (teachers) to discuss and vote on the collective agreement and corresponding offer that is on the table from the Government.

It will be school as usual on Wednesday morning (31 May) for all students and at 1.00pm the bell will signal the end of learning for the day to allow kaiako to attend this important meeting.  We request that you make arrangements for your child to be collected or have them make their way home from school at 1.00pm.

On Wednesday 31 May, at 1.00pm, should you/another adult be unable to have your child/children collected, we will have a limited number of staff onsite to supervise students until 3.00pm.

Could you please notify your child’s class teacher, via email, if they need to remain at school on Wednesday 31 May.  We will also be sending home a paper notice with a return slip on Monday for you to complete should you prefer.

Thank you for your understanding and support.
